How to Make Matcha at Home
What is Matcha?
Matcha is finely ground green tea powder made from shade-grown leaves called tencha. Unlike regular green tea, matcha is consumed whole, offering a richer flavour, vibrant green colour, and a powerful boost of antioxidants, L-theanine, and natural caffeine. Traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies, it’s now embraced globally as a wellness ritual - and it’s not just a fad, matcha is here to stay.
Ways to Use Matcha
Matcha is incredibly versatile. You can enjoy it:
As a traditional tea
In lattes (hot or iced)
Blended into smoothies or protein shakes
Mixed into baked goods, desserts, or savoury dishes
How to Prepare Matcha
With a Chasen (Bamboo Whisk)
Sift 1–2 tsp (2–4g) of Match.D ceremonial matcha into a bowl to prevent clumps.
Add 70–100ml of hot water (80°C). Avoid boiling water.
Whisk in a zig-zag motion until frothy and smooth.
Without a Chasen
Don’t have a whisk? No problem.
Use a milk frother, electric whisk, or shake in a jar with warm water until fully dissolved and slightly foamy.
Optional: Blend with a handheld blender for a creamier finish.
